An iOS developer at Ravalmatic

Yesterday Toni Sala visited our office in Raval. He was one of the speakers of the DevUp conference we attended last week and is passionate about videogames. Although Toni has been working on iOS development only for a year, he has been able to produce a succesful app, Painting Walls, and an interesting version of the classic sokoban game.

We are curious about this platform and Toni was very helpful by giving us insights on how the AppleStore works and about development tools like Cocos2d and Objective C.

Ravalmatic is going to explore this platform on the short term and is looking for collaborators to help us. Even though we feel very comfortable with Flash development we would like to produce iOS versions of our web based games or develop specific products for tablets.

This is Toni's blog:

Ravalmatic in DevUp Conference

This friday we'll be attending DevUp, an event held in Barcelona for Iphone Developers and organized by the people of Ideateca.

We've heard a lot of good things about these guys. The issues covered in the agenda seem very interesting and this will be a great chance to get a glimpse on how do they work.

Will you be attending too?

Our current project

Those are some screen captures of the game currently under developement at our workshop. We are looking forward to publishing it to test our theory about how sense of humour can improve the performance of a game. Can funny elements make a game more appealing and played?

The type of game we were asked to replicate was somehow a dull starting point. We wanted to enrich its gameplay without changing the original concept by adding funny elements and weird characters like a frog riding on a toxic cloud.

We'll keep you informed!

Angry Bee

This is our first serious attempt on physics games. Basically, we wanted to create an aiming game because that was a clear and feasible concept to start from. Once we got the "cannon" working, we realized how interesting the performance of hexagonal cells was. It could just have been a simple skill game, but with some tweaks here and there, we came to a nice mixture of skill and puzzle game. Some of the levels are really tricky. I dare you to beat them all!

This game was kindly sponsored by Games1.com.

Curiosities: the main character of this game is actually a wasp, not a bee. Maybe someday there'll be a prequel which tells us about the whole story behind him. [...] If there's a "Bloons 17 Hanukkah Edition Director's cut", there should be room for the rest of us!
Curiosities 2: This is our first games that has a video review! (Only for german speakers).
